Administrators and Klein ISD Police quickly responded to the report and located the student.
The student was searched, and officers found an unloaded handgun in his possession. No ammunition was discovered, school officials said. Klein ISD Police secured the weapon and arrested the student.
District officials said the situation was quickly contained and there was no ongoing threat to the campus.
The student has since been emergency expelled from Klein ISD, and the district is pursuing felony charges through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
KHS officials also commended the students and staff who reported the situation for helping ensure campus safety.
“Our greatest partners in school safety are our students, staff, and community members who say something when they see something,” Principal Strole wrote in a statement. “We are proud of the courage those students and staff showed, and we are grateful for them.”
Counselors were made available on campus for students or staff who may feel unsettled following the incident.
Friday’s announcement marked the second incident involving a gun on a Klein ISD campus this week.
On Monday, a Klein Collins High School student was arrested and handed felony charges after allegedly firing a handgun in a school bathroom unintentionally.
