HOUSTON – Police say a murder suspect is in custody following a vehicle chase and barricade in Southwest Houston.
KPRC 2 News learned from Houston Police the arrest stems from a possible robbery in the Heights around midnight, where a woman was shot and killed.
At the scene in the Heights, HPD Lt. Khan said officers responded to a shooting report around midnight in the 500 block of West 20th Street.
Arriving officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital where she later died.
Lt. Khan said, through preliminary findings, the woman was walking to her friend’s home when a possible robbery occurred. Witnesses and homicide detectives are responding.
As the situation in the Heights was developing, police said officers spotted an SUV that had been reported stolen and tried to pull the male driver over.
They said the driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase before crashing near the Southwest Freeway and Buffalo Speedway around 1 a.m. this morning.
Police said the man ran into an apartment complex and barricaded himself. HPD Air Support, S.W.A.T. and K-9 units were called in to respond and took the man into custody.
Another man, dressed as Spider-Man, was detained by police for impeding the investigation. He was later released.
