On Tuesday, Harris County Pct. 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones issued a statement mourning the death of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, calling him a transformative figure in American history.
Jackson’s passing was announced early Tuesday morning.

Briones said Jackson’s decades of advocacy helped shape a more just and equitable nation, adding that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
“Today, we mourn the loss of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a giant of the civil rights movement whose courage, faith, and leadership made our nation more just. He gave a voice to the forgotten, challenged injustice, and reminded America of its responsibility to live up to its highest ideals.
