A capital murder charge has been filed against a Houston man accused of carrying out a drive-by shooting that killed two people and injured 15 others outside a local club last year.

Court records show Curvis Lenton, 24, has been formally charged with capital murder. Documents said Lenton is also known by the nickname “AYO.”

The charge was filed on Feb. 9, 2026. Lenton was arrested just after 11 a.m. Monday morning, according to charging documents.

Prosecutors allege Lenton opened fire into a crowd from inside a car, killing 21-year-old Destini Butler and 48-year-old Paul Stevenson.

Stevenson was identified by loved ones as the owner of the club. He was reportedly given the nickname “June Bug” by friends and bar patrons.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Butler dead at the scene. Stevenson was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

15 other bystanders were injured in the shooting and taken to area hospitals. Authorities previously said the victims included eight males ranging in age from 17 to 52 and seven females between the ages of 14 and 21.

Court documents related to Lenton’s arrest state he and three other co-defendants—identified as Jaquavian Alfred, Jessie Alfred and Joseph Raines—allegedly carried out a drive-by shooting into a crowd of people. Specific charges for the others involved have not been released.

Records also show Lenton has a prior conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm.

In that case, Lenton’s deferred adjudication was revoked on Jan. 21, 2026, after he violated the terms of his probation. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.

In the capital murder case, Lenton has been granted a bond set at $2 million, according to court records.
