Possible tornado hits Liberty County during Tuesday storms, NWS investigating

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – The National Weather Service is expected to determine later today whether a tornado touched down in Liberty County after powerful storms caused damage along FM 1010.

Surveillance video shows intense winds sending large sheets of metal flying through the yard of Donald Enloe, a shop owner in the area. Enloe says he took cover as the storm intensified, then noticed the winds briefly stopped before returning from the opposite direction.

“When it hit, I ran and opened the door with the dogs. Then I went to the middle of the house for a few seconds, and it calmed down,” Enloe said. “I was going to walk to the door and then all of a sudden it hit again… I ran back to the middle of the house, and it lasted, and then I came outside and checked everything.”

Enloe says the storm caused damage to his property, including broken windows on his trucks. A nearby church also sustained minor damage.

Residents say cleanup efforts are expected to take place as crews and property owners assess the damage while they wait for confirmation from the National Weather Service.
