Baytown police investigating deadly shooting at apartment complex

Victim had moved from Louisiana for work, officials said

Authorities in Baytown are investigating a murder after a man was found unresponsive at an apartment complex Saturday night.

Officers were dispatched around 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 to the 1700 block of James Bowie Drive after receiving a call about an unresponsive male, according to the Baytown Police Department.

When officers arrived, Baytown Fire Department paramedics were already on scene providing life-saving measures.

The man, later identified as Jerome Harris, a 32-year-old man from Louisiana, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials confirmed that Harris had relocated to Baytown for a work opportunity.

Authorities with Baytown Police Department confirmed Harris died from a gunshot wound, but they could not confirm where Harris was shot.

Baytown PD Crime Scene personnel and detectives processed the scene and launched an investigation. They confirmed they are still working to collect information.

No additional details about possible suspects or the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been released.

The case remains under active investigation.
