VYPE Magazine has dubbed Texas UIL District 17-6A the “District of Doom,” and for good reason.

On Monday, the UIL released its 2026–27 and 2027–28 district reclassification and realignment. One of the major changes included reclassifying Crosby High School into District 17-6A.

Crosby replaces Goose Creek Memorial in the district after Goose Creek Memorial was reclassified to District 9-5A. The move shifts Crosby up from 5A to 6A classification and adds another program to the already daunting “District of Doom.”

District 17-6A will now include the following schools:

  • Atascocita
  • C.E. King
  • Channelview
  • Crosby
  • Humble
  • Kingwood
  • North Shore
  • Summer Creek

It goes without saying this district—home to some of the largest schools in the northeast Houston area—will be a gauntlet.

Last season, the district sent four teams to the Division I and Division II playoffs: North Shore, Summer Creek, C.E. King and Atascocita.

The North Shore Mustangs went on to win the Division I state championship with a 10-7 victory over Duncanville, while the C.E. King Panthers fell in the Division II championship game to DeSoto, 55-27.

With multiple perennial playoff contenders, including four reigning postseason teams, it’s safe to assume the “District of Doom” will live up to its dominant and treacherous reputation over the next two years.
