Officials said Dark was riding in a crosswalk when he was hit by Delvalle.

At the time, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said the area the teen was riding had proper signage and that it appeared Delvalle did not adhere to the signs.

ā€œThis area was clearly marked, signage everywhere. There are all kinds of warnings. This was very avoidable,ā€ Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton said at the time.

After the crash, Delvalle remained at the scene and was fully cooperative with deputies and investigators. He was later booked into the Fort Bend County Jail.

The jury is now deliberating Delvalle’s sentence. A second-degree manslaughter conviction carries a penalty of between 2-20 years in prison.
