A high school student at a Spring ISD campus has been arrested Friday after being found in possession of a firearm on campus, according to Spring Independent School District officials.

In an email sent to Dekaney High School parents, school principal Connie Smith said administrators were alerted in the afternoon that a student was allegedly carrying a gun.

The campus was immediately placed on a “hold” as officials with Spring ISD Police Department responded.

Officers quickly located the student, conducted a search, and confiscated the firearm. The student was taken into custody without incident, and no students were injured.

The district does not believe the gun was loaded.

Spring ISD said the weapon was reported by another student, a move district officials praised.

Parents and students associated with the school have reached out to KPRC 2.

One Dekaney High School parent expressed concern about campus security, saying the school has been “more lenient” with metal detector screenings.

“They’re not searching them well enough,” the parent said. “If they found the gun in the school, something slipped. I feel my child is not safe anymore.”

Spring ISD officials said a more detailed statement is expected as the investigation continues.
