LIST: Businesses, events canceled this weekend in Houston due to winter threat

HOUSTON – As an Arctic blast barrels into Southeast Texas this weekend, Houston-area businesses and event organizers are announcing closures and cancellations due to the threat of freezing temperatures and potentially dangerous conditions.

Houston Zoo

After closely monitoring the forecasted weather conditions, Houston Zoo will be closed Saturday, January 24 through Monday, January 26. Guests who have purchased tickets can reschedule for another day by emailing group.reservations@houstonzoo.org.

The Zoo continues to prepare all animal areas and Zoo grounds for extreme weather conditions and a team of dedicated staff will remain on-site throughout the weekend.

2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s job fair

Due to the severe weather conditions expected this weekend, the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s job fair is being postponed to Sunday, Feb. 1, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All other information, including location, parking, open positions, online registration and more, remains the same.

Texas City Mardi Gras Parade

City of Texas City released the following comment:

The Mardi Gras Parade scheduled for this Saturday has been canceled, due to the expected weather conditions.

But you still have an opportunity to celebrate Mardi Gras next weekend, when the Rotary Club hosts their annual Mardi Gras Gala on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.

The Woodlands Township

  • Due to expected winter weather and freezing temperatures, the Creekside Park Winter Festival and Chili Cookoff has been cancelled.

Township service updates (Jan. 23, 2026):

  • The following Township services will be impacted by the winter weather storm: 
  • Park restrooms will be closed beginning Saturday morning through at least Monday depending on when they can be safely reopened. Water will be shut off and waterlines blown out to prevent pipe damage due to extended freezing temperatures.

At this time, determinations have not been made regarding Monday operations for Township services including Town Hall and other facility hours, The Woodlands Express bus service and Waste Management trash pickup. These decisions are expected to be made Sunday. Any updates will be communicated as soon as they become available.

  • Riva Row Boat House, Lakes Edge Boat House and Swans at the Mall Boat House will close at 3 p.m. Saturday and remain closed on Sunday. 
  • Texas TreeVentures will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Woodlands Recycling Center will be open Saturday and operate normal hours.
  • Both Recreation Centers will be open Saturday and operate normal hours.
  • Town Center Trolleys are expected to operate normal hours Saturday. Sunday and Monday operations will be determined based on roadway and pathway conditions.
