One construction worker killed, one critically injured after crash on Crosby Freeway

Harris County deputies said driver showed no signs of intoxication

CROSBY, Texas – A construction worker is dead and another is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Crosby Freeway (US 90) early Saturday morning.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a man in his early 20’s was driving eastbound on the freeway when he swerved out of his lane and struck two construction workers.

Deputy Chagoya with the HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division said both workers were Life Flighted to a downtown hospital. One of the workers died from their injuries, and the other remains in critical but stable condition. Bother workers are believed to be in their 30’s.

According to Deputy Chagoya, the driver showed no signs of intoxication. Deputies said they also performed a standard field sobriety test which confirmed the driver was not intoxicated.

According to witnesses, the driver stopped a short distance after the crash.

Deputies said there are no charges being filed at this time.
