Teen killed in minibike crash after pursuit with Harris County Sheriff’s Office

Deputies say teen boy wasn’t wearing helmet before fatal collision at Wallisville and Uvalde

HOUSTON – Authorities with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a teenage boy is dead after leading deputies on a pursuit in northeast Harris County.

Deputies said around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the teen was illegally while riding a gas-powered minibike going eastbound in the 15100 block of Wallisville Road. He was not wearing a helmet.

A sergeant with the sheriff’s office said he saw multiple traffic violations from the teen, prompting him to turn on his emergency lights and sirens for a traffic stop.

Deputies said the teen started to evade the sergeant at an unsafe speed in the wrong side of traffic while the sergeant stayed on the correct side.

Ultimately, deputies said the teen ran a red light at Uvalde Road and struck an SUV leaving a parking lot.

Medical responders pronounced the teen deceased on scene from his injuries at 1:41 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division are also assisting with the case. An independent review will be conducted to make sure all policies were followed.
