VIDEO: Authorities warn about drowsy driving after car crashes into 18-wheeler

Trinity County Sheriff’s deputies say no serious injuries, crash serves as reminder to stay alert

TRINITY COUNTY, Texas – Authorities are sending out a reminder this Christmas to avoid driving if you are tired after video shows a dangerous crash between a vehicle and 18-wheeler.

Trinity County deputies said they responded to a reckless driving report Thursday morning. Police dashcam video shows a driver weaving out of his lane, allegedly falling asleep at the wheel.

Deputies said they attempted to stop the driver but were unsuccessful before he crashed into an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Intoxicated driving is not suspected.

"Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, only minor injuries, but multiple vehicles were damaged and the situation could have ended much worse," deputies said in a social media post.

"This crash is a strong reminder of how dangerous driving while fatigued can be, especially during the holidays. Fatigue slows reaction time, affects judgment, and can be just as dangerous as driving impaired."

Deputies are reminding drivers this holiday season to:

  • Get plenty of rest
  • Take frequent breaks on long trips
  • Pull over if you feel drowsy
  • Do not push yourself to keep driving
