$16M project adds sidewalks, safer walks for Katy and Cy‑Fair students

Commissioner Lesley Briones invests $16M to expand school-safe sidewalks in Precinct 4

Never-ending Greenhouse Road construction

HOUSTON – As part of a second phase of investments under the Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4 program, Commissioner Lesley Briones has committed $16 million toward adding new sidewalks near schools, bus stops, parks, and other high‑traffic areas across Precinct 4.

County officials say the Greenhouse Road area has seen 22 crashes in the last five years, including one that seriously injured a bicyclist. The new sidewalks are intended to give pedestrians a safer option in an area that continues to grow and see heavier foot traffic.

Just last year, Phase 1 of the initiative resulted in more than 50 miles of new sidewalks across the precinct, including nearly 23 miles within Katy ISD boundaries and over 14 miles around campuses in Cy‑Fair ISD.

With this additional $16 million, the program aims to close remaining “sidewalk gap” areas, especially in zones where children walk to school, neighborhoods lack safe pedestrian infrastructure, or there’s high foot and bike traffic.
