CYPRESS. Texas – Law enforcement say a man’s body has been recovered from a submerged vehicle found inside a Cypress pond.

Authorities with the Harris County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office say they were called just before 4 p.m. to the 18500 block of W. Windhaven Terrace Trail after getting reports of a vehicle upside down in a retention pond.

Responding deputies arrived to see wheels sticking out of the water. They determined there had been a crash earlier in the morning, during which the vehicle drove into the water.

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office dive team was then called out. They noticed tire tracks as well as damage to a nearby pier.

After doing an initial search around the vehicle to see if anyone had been ejected in the crash, a heavy-duty wrecker was called. The wrecker was able to pull the vehicle toward the shore where it was then flipped upright. Authorities then discovered a man’s body inside the vehicle.

Authorities at the scene say they have abundant evidence that this was an accident. The vehicle appears to be a Honda Civic. Law enforcement is investigating whether speed, weather, or intoxication may have played a role in the crash.

There is no indication anyone else was involved in the crash.
