GALVESTON, Texas – A man died after being pulled from the water off the Galveston Seawall on Saturday, according to Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Austin Kirwin.
Kirwin said red flags were flying Saturday, signaling strong currents in the Gulf. Around 2 p.m., dispatchers received a call about a paddle boarder in distress near 94th Street and the Seawall.
Beach Patrol, Galveston Fire Department and EMS crews responded and later located the man near 102nd Street, Kirwin said. Rescuers pulled him from the water and began CPR before he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man, described as being in his 40s from the Houston area, has not yet been publicly identified
