Houston residents will soon have a chance to weigh in on how the city spends taxpayer dollars as Chris Hollins launches a new budget-focused town hall series.
The series, called “Reality Check,” is designed to give Houstonians a closer look at the city’s financial outlook while allowing residents to ask questions and share concerns directly with city leaders.

According to the Controller’s Office, the meetings aim to increase transparency and public engagement ahead of Houston’s next budget cycle.
“As we look ahead to Houston’s next budget, I remain committed to grounding the numbers and the process in reality for Houstonians,” Hollins said in a statement. “This series is about creating an open forum where residents can react, ask tough questions, and help shape a budget that reflects what Houstonians actually experience day to day.”
The town hall series will make stops in several Houston neighborhoods throughout May:
- May 12 at 6:30 p.m. — HCC North Forest Campus
- May 14 at 6:30 p.m. — Acres Homes Multiservice Center
- May 17 at 1 p.m. — Axelrad
- May 18 at 6:30 p.m. — BakerRipley Gulfton Sharpstown
- May 21 at 6:30 p.m. — Kirby Ice House Memorial
- May 23 at 1 p.m. — La Escondida (Spanish translation available)
Officials said each event will include a live Q&A session where residents can discuss spending priorities, neighborhood concerns and the city’s financial future.
All events are free and open to the public.
