MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – An elementary school teacher has been arrested after several allegations were made that he sexually assaulted students, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Investigators say 70-year-old Rene Jesus Tavera-Arango has worked in area school districts for the past 14 years. Most notably, deputies said he worked at Splendora ISD’s Peach Creek Elementary for the past two years before working at Navasota ISD and Cleveland ISD.
The investigation first started after several students came forward with sexual abuse allegations that reportedly occurred at their school. Court documents gave graphic details on the allegations involving Tavera-Arango with students and showed behavior consistent with grooming and bribing students.
The 70-year-old is currently in custody and being held on a $250,000 bond. However, the MCSO is urging anyone with information or who may have been a victim to contact the Special Victims Unit at (936) 760-5876.
