Man sentenced to 58 years for death of Nassau Bay police officer

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man convicted of aggravated assault on a public servant in the death of a Nassau Bay police officer in 2019 learned his fate Wednesday.

A judge sentenced Tavores Henderson to 58 years in prison for the death of Sgt. Kaila Sullivan.

Henderson was found guilty by a jury on Sept. 4 for the December 2019 crime.

Sullivan was killed when Henderson, who she was trying to apprehend, jumped into a vehicle and ran her over, officials said.

After a two-day manhunt, the suspect, later identified as Henderson, was arrested and charged with capital murder.

Assistant District Attorneys Lisa Stewart and Stephany Abner prosecuted the case on behalf of Sullivan, her wife and her son.

Prosecutors said the verdict does not erase the family’s loss, but it brings legal accountability for Henderson’s actions.
