HOUSTON, Texas – A 13-year-old is dead after police say his west Houston apartment was shot multiple times Sunday afternoon.
Houston police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 12658 Ashford Meadow around 3 p.m.
Although the motive remains unclear, investigators don’t believe the shooting was random since several shots were fired into one apartment.
“It’s not a stray bullet; there are at least 12 shell casings that are out here in front of the apartment complex,” said Sgt. Charlie Lamonte. “It’s pretty amazing that nobody else got hit given the amount of gunfire outside.”
Lamonte said several people were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, including the boy’s mother. The 13-year-old was in the living room when a bullet pierced the door, hitting him in the leg.
Residents of the complex who tried to help the boy were shocked to hear he later died at the hospital.
Investigators are now reviewing HOA and personal ring camera footage to identify a possible suspect.
