A woman has now been charged with murder after she admitted to shooting and killing her boyfriend in a west Houston apartment on Christmas Day of last year. She claimed that she shot him in self-defense.
At around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 25, authorities were alerted to a shooting scene at an apartment located in the 1400 block of Lakeside Estates Drive.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, a 22-year-old man, laying on the floor between the living room and the dining room. There was blood all over the unit, including smears and handprints. The man had been shot once in the neck.
The victim’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Asia Deason, told investigators she shot her boyfriend after a physical altercation that included him grabbing her and ignoring her threats to use the firearm she was holding, according to court records.
Investigators analyzed the text message exchanges between the couple. They did not find any clear evidence of domestic abuse, but they said Deason sent the victim’s mother a text message that read, “Just calling to let you know if your son puts his hands on me, I’m going to seriously injure him.” That text was sent in Oct. 2024.
Authorities also conducted a re-enactment of the shooting with Deason on Jan. 3. Using a plastic gun, they recreated the physical altercation that led to the gun being fired.
Forensic experts reviewed the re-enactment and determined that it would have been “very difficult” for the shooting to have occurred the way Deason described, judging by the height difference between the couple, the trajectory of the bullet and the wounds the boyfriend sustained.
Deason has been charged with a felony count of murder.
