A Baytown man is behind bars after investigators say he shot his fiancé and attempted to stage the scene as a suicide.
Ty Vaughn, 31, has been charged with murder after Luis David Banos was found dead with a gunshot wound to his face from a rifle. The incident occurred on Jan. 14.
According to court documents, Vaughn performed online searches asking if it was “illegal to kill and illegal immigrant” just hours before the shooting took place. Vaughn would later confirm that Banos lacked legal status.
Authorities also said Vaugn moved Banos’ body after the murder and reportedly tried to make the wound appear self-inflicted.
Vaughn was given a bond of $500,000. His next court date is scheduled for March 10.
