Edwards was given a combined bond of $1 million on Tuesday. Officials with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office confirmed he bonded out of jail around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Edwards, who is the captain of HPD’s Auto Theft Division, is a 32-year veteran with HPD. The department relieved him of duty pending the outcome of an investigation when his arrest was announced.
Court documents revealed a young female victim made an outcry to an adult, saying Edwards had been sexually assaulting her since elementary school.
The victim alleged Edwards would also send sexually explicit pictures and request nude photos from her as well. She said Edwards sometimes bribed her with money to send the photos which she did to keep Edwards from getting upset.
The documents say the victim knew Edwards was saving the photos she sent because she would get a notification of photo saved from the Snapchat app, which is one of the apps Edwards used. She said Edwards told her he had a hidden photo album with the pictures in them and threatened to “ruin her life with them.”
Edwards also allegedly used hidden cameras to capture images of the victim in compromising positions.
According to records, Edwards next court date is scheduled for April 24.
