1 dead, another hurt during house fire in northeast Houston

HOUSTON – A man died and a woman was hurt during a house fire in Houston’s Fifth Ward overnight Friday.

Details are limited, but the Houston Fire Department was called to a home on Lila Street off Eastex Freeway near Liberty Street a little after 1:30 a.m.

It’s unclear how everything unfolded, but an unidentified man, 27, died and an unidentified woman, 27, suffered minor injuries.

Based on the preliminary evidence, HFD said they do not suspect foul play but are looking into the man’s death. Arson investigators were also called to the scene to figure out what caused the fire.
