Woman injured by celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Day in SE Houston

A woman was shot in the leg by celebratory gunfire moments after the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Day.

The unidentified 32-year-old woman was hit in the leg by a stray bullet at approximately 12:10 a.m. in the 10200 block of Telephone Road, according to Houston police.

She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where investigators said she is expected to survive.

This incident comes just days after a Houston family shared the story of 12-year-old Ashley Rodriguez, who was struck by a stray bullet on Christmas Eve.

Ashley’s family has since pleaded for an end to celebratory gunfire, warning of its dangerous consequences.
