How did Houston man Shamsud-Din Jabbar get the truck used in the New Orleans attack?

As authorities continue to investigate the horrific New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street, questions remain about how Shamsud Din Jabbar obtained the Ford F-150 Lightning truck he used to plow into a crowd, killing 10 and injuring dozens.

WHO IS THE SUSPECT? Driver identified as Houston resident in New Orleans’ New Year’s attack that killed 10

KPRC 2 investigates the truck’s ties to a Pasadena car dealership, revealing that the vehicle, which bore Texas license plates, was last linked to the dealership. Records show the truck was part of the dealership’s rental fleet and was still at the lot as recently as Dec. 14.

According to NBC News, Turo, a peer-to-peer car rental service, issued a statement expressing that the company is “heartbroken” to learn one of its host’s vehicles was involved in the incident.

The company spokesperson stated Turo is cooperating fully with the FBI’s investigation and noted that, at the time of the reservation, they were “not currently aware” of any indications in the guest’s background that would have flagged him as a potential “trust and safety threat.”

Jabbar drove the truck into a crowd gathered to celebrate the New Year in New Orleans’ French Quarter. After the crash, he engaged in a shootout with police, leaving two officers injured before being fatally shot.

The FBI has classified the incident as a possible act of terrorism after finding an ISIS flag and a homemade explosive device in the truck.

The Pasadena car dealership has not commented publicly, and Pasadena Police have deferred to the FBI, which is leading the investigation.
