According to authorities with Houston Police Department, officers observed a confrontation somewhere between 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. on the IH-10 feeder road near Lockwood Dr. in east Houston. HPD officers came behind an aggressive vehicle, and there appeared to be a disagreement between two men inside the car.
When police investigated the scene, one of the men in the car did not want to comply and ran down the embankment onto the freeway. Officers gave chase. One vehicle was able to swerve and avoid the man, but another car was unable to stop and struck him, killing him.
“This is heartbreaking for everybody,” HPD Chief Patty Cantù said in a press conference discussing the events. “It’s very traumatic. We send our condolences. We’re sending our prayers for whatever has happened. Once again, it’s an investigation and we’re just going to continue to find out the facts in this case.”
