HOUSTON – Firefighters have contained a large fire that started at a business that makes wooden pallet in the eastern part of Houston.
The fire was first called in at around 12:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the 12000 block of Church Rd.
According to Brent Taylor, Public Information Officer with the Houston Fire Department, the fire started in a group of wooden pallets and spread to some nearby propane tanks.
Several vehicles on the property also caught on fire after the fire spread.
Firefighters remain out on the property, but Taylor said the fire has been contained.
“There’s some spots on the property that are difficult to get to, so they are waiting on some equipment to come out to help clear the property and get to those last remaining spots to get the fire fully extinguished,” Taylor said.
While it is not known exactly how many pallets burned, approximately 3-4 acres of land was affected by the fire.
A hazmat team did respond, and Harris County Public Health is monitoring air quality. As of now, officials haven’t been notified of any larger impact outside the immediate area.
Viewers contacted KPRC 2 regarding the fire, saying that it was expanding, and they were hearing explosions.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
