Details are limited, as it’s an active investigation, but police say the crash happened a little after 3:15 a.m. on Turning Basin off 610. That’s where the unidentified driver was heading northbound but for undisclosed reasons, officials say the driver left the roadway before hitting a tree.
Moments later, responding officers found the vehicle covered in flames, with the driver’s body still inside.

No additional details were shared, so it’s unclear what caused the crash but authorities have shut down the entire northbound side of the freeway while the investigation continues.
