2 killed in crash involving wrong-way driver on Eastex Fwy, causing complete roadway closures

HOUSTON – Authorities are piecing together what led up to a deadly crash overnight Thursday on IH-69 Eastex Freeway in north Harris County.

It happened a little after 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes at Rankin Road where Humble Police Department says it got a call about a wrong-way driver. Moments later, a crash occurred involving two vehicles.

The wrong-way driver, a 24-year-old woman, was driving a white Cadillac CTS southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway when she struck a gray Nissan Altima traveling northbound, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department. The woman was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

As a result of this crash, the roads were completely shut down for several hours. The roadway cleared a little before 9:45 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
