It has now been one year since we began ‘Pop-Off Politics.’ We took on the pop-off name as an ode to the City of Houston’s public comment period, which is called pop-off.

One well-talked-about issue deals with Houston parking meters. The city is looking to extend billable hours.

Right now, it’s free parking after 6 p.m. in some areas. The city wants to add eight hours to it, making the new time to feed the meters from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Bottom line. This is a revenue generator for the fourth-largest city. The good news for those parking is that the city is not looking to raise the hourly rate to park.
