The unidentified HPD supervisor was said by investigators to be heading home after working the night shift. While driving northbound on the 610 West Loop and Katy Fwy, around 2:30 a.m., officials said a pedestrian was running across the freeway. As a result, the officer hit the pedestrian and later died from their injuries.

Moments later, investigators say an SUV with two people inside crashed into the officers’ patrol vehicle. They did not suffer any injuries.

The only details we have received on the officer involved, as of this writing, is they are a night shift lieutenant for the Southwest Patrol Division with 14 years of experience. During the investigation, that officer will be placed on administrative leave, per protocol.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area while crews continue to investigate the scene. The roadways were cleared by law enforcement officials just before 7 a.m.

No additional details have been shared, but KPRC 2 will continue to make updates to this story as it develops.
