Baby abandoned on front doorstep in SE Houston identified, along with family

Someone called 911 Thursday morning and said the baby boy was left in a car seat at their front door.

HOUSTON – A baby boy found on a Houston doorstep Thursday has been identified, according to Houston police, and so has his family.

Police aren’t saying who they are because no one has been criminally charged, but the baby is not back with his family.

He was checked out at a hospital and then handed over to Children’s Protective Services.

We also know now the baby is nine months old.

According to Houston police, someone at a home in the 8400 block of Winthrop Lane called 911 around 6:24 a.m. Thursday, saying the baby was left at their front door in a car seat.

At the time he was found, the baby boy was wearing a white and blue striped shirt and blue pants.

The child is nine months old, has two bottom teeth, weighs about 15 lbs, and has a medium brown complexion.

The infant was initially taken to the hospital to be checked out.

A representative from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services says whoever abandoned him could face criminal charges.

KPRC 2 asked HPD if the parents or anyone related to the child had come forward.

Officials told us that this is an ongoing investigation, and believe they may have found someone related to the child.

There is a law known as the Baby Moses law that allows people to bring children under 60 days old to a safe haven like a hospital or a fire station and leave it with an employee, no questions asked. For children older than that, there are adoption options.
