'Houston Most Wanted' fugitive captured in New York

BROOKLYN – Convicted murderer and fugitive Elvio Mancebo was captured in Brooklyn after years on the run, ending a manhunt that began when he failed to appear for sentencing in 2023, authorities said.

Mancebo was charged in 2017 with capital murder in Harris County. Investigators say he later skipped sentencing and disappeared, prompting an effort to locate him across jurisdictions.

Officials credited “outstanding teamwork” among multiple law enforcement agencies for the arrest, saying Mancebo is no longer a threat to the public.
