Man arrested after assaulting woman, getting into standoff with SWAT at SW Houston hotel

A man was arrested after assaulting a woman and barricading himself inside a southwest Houston hotel room on Saturday, according to Houston SWAT officials. (KPRC)

HOUSTON – A man was arrested after assaulting a woman and getting into a standoff with SWAT officers at a southwest Houston hotel on Saturday, according to Houston SWAT officials.

Houston police was dispatched to a hotel in the 9600 block of Plainfield Street at approximately 6:17 p.m. due to a call about an assault.

Officers arrived and heard from witnesses that a man had assaulted a woman and dragged her into a hotel room.

Police were later able to get the woman to safety and take her to the hospital. She is in stable condition.

The suspect then went back into the room and held a pistol to his head.

Police stayed in contact with him, and they called the SWAT team.

SWAT officials arrived at the scene. They spoke to the man and tried to calm him down.

The man later exited the room and was arrested. He was charged with kidnapping and continuous family violence.
