“We would like to commend the Spring ISD Police Department and Ponderosa Elementary staff members for their quick response in handling this matter. Although no students were hurt, we take this matter very seriously as the safety of our students and staff is always our absolute top priority. We will always take every precaution to ensure they have a safe and secure learning environment,” Ponderosa Elementary School Principal Floralba Reyna said.

Reyna also asked parents to check their child’s belongings before they head to school and to speak to them about how serious it is to bring dangerous items to campus.

“Additionally, if you are a gun owner, please ensure that your weapons are secured. If you need locks, please contact our police department for free locks, or you can contact our Family and Community Engagement Department at 281-891-6060. Finally, please encourage your child to share information with teachers or administrators when they are aware of something that could be a threat to their safety or the safety of others,” Reyna said.
