Memorial service held for La Porte Police Chief Doug Ditrich

LA PORTE, Texas – A memorial service is was held on Saturday to honor La Porte Police Chief Doug Ditrich.

The service happened at the La Porte Bulldog Center at 301 East Fairmont at 2 p.m.

Ditrich died in an accident in Milam, Texas on Sunday.

He was not on duty during the incident, and no foul play was involved.

“Please keep the entire Ditrich family and the La Porte Police Department in your prayers,” the La Porte Police Department said on Monday.

Ditrich joined the department in 1997. He previously was in the SWAT and worked as a patrol officer and a detective.

Ditrich had a Master of Science in Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University.

He became chief in May 2023.
