Suspect in deadly stabbing on METRO Rail arrested after hourlong standoff in The Heights

HOUSTON – The suspect in a deadly stabbing on a METRO Rail line was taken into custody after a standoff in The Heights Wednesday evening.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody on the third floor of a church located at 16th Street and Heights Blvd.

The man then reportedly decided to hang out the third-floor window instead of surrendering.

The standoff lasted for more than one hour before the suspect was taken into custody.

The deadly stabbing happened on Sunday in the 4500 block of Main Street at about 9:10 p.m.

METRO police officers responded to reports of a disturbance call between two men on the METRO Rail line platform at 1900 Main St. Officers said when they arrived, they searched the immediate area but did not locate the men.

Dispatchers then told the officers of a stabbing victim found in one of the rail cars in the 4500 block of Main Street near the Wheeler Avenue stop. Officers said they found the unresponsive victim lying on the floor inside the rail car.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. He had reportedly suffered at least one stab wound.
