2 arrested following Chambers County chase, accused of stealing over $25K of material from Baytown energy plant

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said two people have been arrested after a chase that went through the City of Baytown Saturday.

The sheriff’s office said at approximately 2:56 p.m., deputies responded to the 8600 block of FM 1405 in Baytown in reference to two people who had cut the gate and trespassed at the Calpine Baytown Energy plant. The day prior, this same location had approximately $25,000 worth of material stolen from the site.

A deputy located the suspect vehicle and attempted to block them in, but the suspects were able to flee from the scene and led deputies on a chase.

The pursuit traveled on State Highway 99 in both directions before the suspects exited the highway and began fleeing through the City of Baytown. Deputies continued chasing them until they stopped their vehicle and fled on foot.

With the assistance of the Baytown Police Department, deputies were able to apprehend the two suspects.

22-year-old Angel Cavazos, of Baytown, and 21-year-old Alonzo Maldonado, of Baytown, were both arrested and transported to the Chambers County Jail.

Cavazos is facing evading charges as well as theft of material and criminal mischief charges. Maldonado is also facing evading charges along with theft of material and criminal mischief charges. Their bonds have not yet been set.
