Father, son charged in murders of pregnant San Antonio teen and her boyfriend: What we know about their backgrounds

HOUSTON – A father and his son were arrested and charged after a pregnant San Antonio teenager and her boyfriend were found shot to death inside a vehicle at an apartment complex the day after Christmas.

More than a week later, 19-year-old Christopher Preciado was charged with murdering 18-year-old Savanah Nicole Soto and 22-year-old Matthew Guerra. His father, 53-year-old Ramon Preciado, was charged with abuse of a corpse for allegedly helping Christopher move the bodies.

The couple was reported missing by family members several days before Christmas, and on Christmas Day, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a CLEAR alert for Soto.

Soto, who was nine months pregnant, and Guerra were both found inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities say they were killed on Dec. 21 after a botched drug deal with Christopher.

Family members told KSAT that missing pregnant woman Savanah Soto, 18, was found dead in her car in the 5900 block of Danny Kaye along with an adult male, who is believed to be Soto’s boyfriend, Mathew Guerra, 22, on Tuesday. Dec. 26, 2023. (Courtesy, Soto family)

What do we know about the suspects?

The father and son duo, who reside in San Antonio, Texas, are the only suspects authorities said they are searching for.

On Thursday, online records for the Bexar County magistrate did not indicate whether either man has an attorney, and San Antonio police did not immediately respond to phone and email messages.

Police said information on Savanah Soto’s cellphone was found in the vehicle they were killed in, which then led them to a vehicle they had seen on surveillance video. After releasing images of the suspect vehicle to the public, authorities were led to a home where they found the father and the son. Ramon answered the door and cooperated with police.

As he was placed in a patrol car late Wednesday night, Ramon was asked by reporters whether he had remorse.

“Aren’t you sorry for lying about what you’re saying? You don’t even know what’s going on. You just make stuff up like always,” Preciado said.

His son did not comment as police escorted him to a separate vehicle.

According to KSAT, Christopher has no previous criminal history, while his father had some criminal history. Details regarding the father’s criminal history were not released.

Ramon’s bond is set at $100,000, while Christopher’s bond has been set at $1,000,000.

The San Antonio Police Department is working with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office to determine if there will be any further charges against the men.
