In a recent announcement, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo revealed that Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, the founder and CEO of Buc-ee’s, will be the grand marshal for the 2024 Downtown Rodeo Parade. The annual parade, a tradition since 1938, serves as a precursor to the Rodeo season, celebrating Western Heritage and ushering in the festivities.

Aplin, known for steering the success of Buc-ee’s since its inception in 1982, will lead the parade. Chris Boleman, Rodeo president and CEO, shared the organization’s excitement, stating in a release, “Buc-ee’s is one of Texas’ most notable brands, and we are honored to have Arch Aplin III help kick off our historic event. As many of our attendees travel long distances for our annual event, Buc-ee’s is part of the Rodeo experience for many already.”

Under Aplin’s leadership, Buc-ee’s has become a well-known travel center, famous for its Beaver Nuggets, brisket sandwiches, and an emphasis on customer experience. Aplin has been involved in various Texas-based organizations and previously served as chairman of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

The Downtown Rodeo Parade, which will be held on Feb. 24, will transform the city center into a display of Western Heritage, signaling the beginning of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Parade-goers can anticipate the familiar sight of the Buc-ee’s beaver mascot alongside Rodeo mascot Howdy.

This year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will run from Feb. 27 to March 17.
