Man who coached teen to rob person charged with murder after teen killed in Third Ward during crime

HOUSTON – A man was charged with murder after a teenager he coached to commit an aggravated robbery died during the crime, according to court documents.

Larry Holmes, 18, was charged with the murder of an unidentified 16-year-old, who was fatally shot in Third Ward on Dec. 12.

Holmes appeared in court on Saturday. He received a $275,000 bond.

What happened

The 16-year-old was found with gunshot wounds inside of an elevator in an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Elgin Street around 11:35 p.m.

Court documents state Holmes coached the 16-year-old on how to rob a man. He allegedly told the teen to point a gun at two people and rob them, and this led to the death of the teenager.

A second person was injured in the shooting, and officers previously mentioned they were looking for a third person that fled from the area after the incident.

Holmes was also charged with a robbery with a deadly weapon that happened on Aug. 4.
