Man found shot to death inside elevator at apartment complex near University of Houston

HOUSTON – A man is dead after police said his body was found with gunshot wounds inside an elevator at an apartment complex in Third Ward Tuesday night.

The shooting took place in the 3710 block of Elgin Street at around 11:35 p.m.

“This was a targeted isolated incident. We don’t feel that there is a general threat to the public of students of U of H or TSU,” said HPD Homicide commander Christopher Hassig.

Officers with the Houston Police Department said a resident was waiting on the 17th floor for the elevator, but when it opened a man’s body was inside.

“We have not been able to identify that male, we know it is black male young, possibly in his teens or 20′s,” Hassig said.

Investigators added that two security officers located at the apartment complex heard the gunfire and later saw two men running away from the area with guns.

“We do have another individual that was shot that is at a local hospital that is speaking with investigators right now and we have a third individual that was in the elevator because this incident did take place in the high-rise elevator that fled the location that we have not identified that we are hoping to speak with,”

Police said several pistol casings and pistols were located in the elevator.

If you have any information in this case you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
