Suspect wanted in Houston man’s fatal shooting arrested in Walker County

HOUSTON – A suspect who was wanted in the fatal shooting of a man in north Houston is in custody, the Houston Police Department said.

Jachob Leroy Byrd, 46, is in custody in Walker County and is charged with capital murder in the 180th State District Court. The victim was identified as 54-year-old Eric Brown.

On Aug. 22, officers responded to reports of a dead man at a residence located in the 9700 block of Bertwood Street at around 7:30 a.m.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found Brown with multiple gunshot wounds. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Further investigation identified Byrd as a suspect in the shooting, HPD said. Investigators consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges were filed on Sept. 11.

On Tuesday, Byrd was arrested in Walker County, Texas by Huntsville Police Department officers and US Marshals Service deputies. He is awaiting extradition to Harris County.
