HOUSTON – More details are being released after a Houston Police Department officer was charged with shooting his wife in the face with a rifle at their home in northwest Houston earlier this month.

A search warrant was issued for Chowdhury’s home due to investigators believing that a firearm, ammunition and shell casings amongst other evidence are still inside the apartment. Chowdhury has also been ordered not to return to the apartment, according to court records. Investigators also asked to seize an iPhone 13 and case that may be related to the shooting.

Case details so far

According to court records, on June 12, officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located at 10333 Clay Road.

Chowdhury said he called the police after hearing an unrecognizable voice at his front door and thinking someone was breaking into his apartment. He told responding officers that he then grabbed his rifle and shot towards the front door, accidentally shooting his wife, who he claims “got in the way” of him shooting at the person in front of his door.

While investigating the scene, officers said they found no evidence of anyone damaging the door to the apartment.

Chowdhury’s wife was transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to investigators, she told medical staff at the hospital that the shooting was accidental and refused to give a statement to police.

Chowdhury was later released from jail after posting a $125,000 bond. He is currently ordered to surrender his passport and not have any contact with his 30-year-old wife. Court records say the wife’s family members are concerned for their safety due to Chowdhury owning a key to their homes.
