Missing West University man found at San Antonio bus stop days after burned vehicle discovered at Harris County park

HOUSTON – A 38-year-old West University man who was reported missing on June 21 was found safe Monday night at a San Antonio bus stop, officials said.

Last week, Brett Detamore’s car was discovered burned at Bear Creek Pioneers Park in west Harris County, which is still being looked into by Houston Fire Department arson investigators.

Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said they are happy he was found unharmed, but he was “fazed and disheveled.”

Rosen said Detamore emailed his wife on Monday, and after verifying it wasn’t a hoax, officers that specialize in mental health found him at the San Antonio bus stop, where he voluntarily agreed to come back to Harris County.

He was admitted to a hospital in Houston for treatment.

In the days around his disappearance, at least two financial-related lawsuits were filed against Detamore and his development company, according to public records.

Law enforcement did not say why Detamore disappeared but said early on they had evidence that indicated it may have been planned.

Several law enforcement agencies and volunteers with Texas EquuSearch endured scorching temperatures to search for Detamore, who is a father of three.

West University Police Chief Ken Walker said his department is still investigating others who may have been complicit in other activities of Detamore but would not elaborate on specifics.

On a Facebook page dedicated to finding Detamore, the family thanked everyone who helped and asked for privacy.

Walker said a lot of money and resources were spent on the search for Detamore, but did not share an exact amount.

“[The Family] wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers, the tremendous support, and everyone’s efforts searching for him.” Rosen said on Facebook.
