At some point, Martin said the suspect, described as a man in his early 20s, got out of his vehicle with a rifle and fired at the officer. He then took off on foot.

That officer was not hurt.

Martin said he called out the suspect’s description to nearby officers using his radio.

Police said the suspect was later caught at a nearby apartment complex near Ella Boulevard.

Martin said the suspect discarded the rifle prior to officers apprehending him.

However, on Sunday, deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said one of their K-9 police dogs found the discarded weapon underneath a vehicle.
