According to Sgt. D. Rose with Houston Police Department’s vehicular crimes division, the sergeant was responding to a reported crash involving an orange sedan and an 18-wheeler that occurred on the entrance ramp.

The driver of the orange sedan was in the process of changing lanes when she cracked her vehicle’s oil pan, leaving her disabled in the middle of the ramp. Rose said the 18-wheeler tried to avoid the sedan, but ended up colliding.

Both drivers were not hurt and remained at the scene.

Rose said while the responding sergeant called for backup and attempted to stop traffic, a woman driving a blue Kia hit the back of his vehicle, injuring him.

Police believe that the driver of the Kia was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She was taken into custody at the scene.

The HPD sergeant was taken to the hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Sgt. Rose said the driver of the orange sedan that caused the initial crash will be issued a citation.
