VIDEO: Woman arrested after allegedly stealing 18 packages off porches in West University ahead of Christmas

HOUSTON – A woman alleged to have stolen 18 packages in the West University area has been arrested and charged for her crimes thanks to a Nest camera.

Police said Katha Knippa was caught on camera Christmas Day stealing several packages.

West U resident Scott Commons said he just happened to be looking at his phone when it was happening.

“For whatever reason, I was able to notice that this occurred and called the police. Other than that, she would have never been caught,” said Commons who had several packages stolen.

Police said they were able to track down and pull over Knippa less than a mile away.

“They were just gifts that were for the family that this woman took,” Commons said.

Knippa has since been charged with mail theft.
