Man shot, killed inside vehicle on Grand Parkway and Champion Forest, deputies say

SPRING, Texas – An investigation is underway after Harris County sheriff’s deputies said a man was shot and killed inside a vehicle on Grand Parkway Thursday.

It happened on 99 and Champion Forest Drive around 12:30 a.m.

According to deputies, drivers were flagged down by a driver in a black Jeep Cherokee. When drivers stopped, they found the passenger had been shot, HCSO said.

The driver said he and the passenger, both around 20 years of age, were coming back from a fishing trip. The two were making a u-turn at Champion Forest when investigators said a black sedan fired one round at them. The passenger was struck and EMS declared the victim dead at the scene, deputies said.

Investigators said it is unclear if this is a road rage shooting.

Deputies said the driver has been detained and is cooperating with authorities for questioning.

The Grand Parkway eastbound lanes are currently closed as HCSO investigates the shooting. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
